List of AWS Services with Basic Description

You can find all the services offered by AWS in the management console. Amazon has recently rolled out a new preview version of the AWS Management Console. However, the older one seems to me more descriptive for me. Currently there is an option to opt out of the new console preview and see the old console itself. But you will not be able to switch back to the newer one after going back. My description below is based on the older Console.

AWS Management Console services can be classified into different groups or categories. Current categories are:

Type Of Security Credentials in AWS - Singon, Access and IAM Users

There are different types of security credentials based on how we interact with AWS - Management Console or tools such as CLI or SDKs.

Signon Credentials: Email and Password

Email and password created during signup are used to login to pages such as the AWS Management Console, AWS discussion forums, or AWS support center.

AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) Overview

AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) enables you to create and manage AWS users, groups and roles, and use permissions to allow and deny their access to AWS services and resources.

For using IAM, you can use the web based IAM console, the AWS CLI, or the API or SDKs.

Benefits of IAM

  1. IAM provides centralized control and shared access to your AWS account.

IAM Core Concepts - Users, Groups, Roles and Policies

Authentication is done in IAM through following core concepts: users, groups or roles, and authorization is done through policies.

Users and Groups

Users and groups control an individual's access to AWS services.

IAM Users can be grouped into Groups

Roles

We can attach roles to services.

Roles allow

About

CloudMaterials is my blog to share notes and learning materials on Cloud and Data Analytics. My current focus is on Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

I like to write and I try to document what I learn to share with others. I believe that knowledge is useless unless you share it; the more you share, the more you learn.
