Amazon S3 Quick Notes (Numbers)

  1. If a file upload is successful, you get 200 OK HTTP status code.

  2. HTTP status code for following error codes is 403 Forbidden: AccessDenied, AccountProblem, CrossLocationLoggingProhibited, InvalidAccessKeyId, InvalidObjectState, InvalidPayer, InvalidSecurity, NotSignedUp, RequestTimeTooSkewed, SignatureDoesNotMatch.

  3. HTTP status code for following error codes is 409 conflict: BucketAlreadyExists, BucketAlreadyOwnedByYou, BucketNotEmpty, InvalidBucketState, OperationAborted.

  4. HTTP status codes. 416 = InvalidRange. 411 = MissingContentLength. 405 = MethodNotAllowed.

  5. Error code starting with NoSuch, then HTTP Status code is: 404.

  6. Important 400 error codes: InvalidArgument, BadDigest, CredentialsNotSupported, ExpiredToken, InvalidBucketName, InvalidDigest, InvalidEncryptionAlgorithmError, InvalidPolicyDocument, InvalidToken, MalformedACLError, MissingSecurityElement, MissingSecurityHeader, TokenRefreshRequired.

  7. Amazon S3 is designed to sustain the concurrent loss of data in two facilities.

  8. AWS recommends that you use Multipart Upload for files larger than 100 MB.

  9. SLA of 999% availability and 9999999999% (11 9s) durability for Standard S3.

  10. Availability of S3-IA is 99.9 % and 99.999999999% (11 9s) durability.

  11. A minimum of 30 days is required before transitioning to the Standard-IA storage class from S3.

  12. Standard-IA has a minimum retention period of 30 days. An object must remain in the Standard-IA storage class for a minimum of 30 days before transitioning to the Glacier storage class.

  13. Data that is deleted from Standard - IA within 30 days will be charged for a full 30 days.

  14. Minimum file size in S3-IA is 128KB. Objects smaller than 128KB in size will incur storage charges as if the object were 128KB.

  15. Reduced Redundancy Storage (RRS) provides 99.99% availability and 99.99 % durability.

  16. Objects that are archived to Glacier have a minimum of 90 days of storage. Objects deleted before 90 days incur a pro-rated early deletion fee charge based on remaining period.

  17. You can retrieve 10 GB of your Amazon Glacier data per month for free.

  18. For all but the largest archives (250 MB+), Glacier data accessed using Expedited retrievals are typically made available within 1–5 minutes.

  19. Standard Glacier retrievals typically complete within 3–5 hours.

  20. If you have objects that are smaller than 1GB or if the data set is less than 1GB in size, you should consider using Amazon CloudFront's PUT/POST commands for optimal performance instead of transfer acceleration.

  21. DNS-compliant bucket names must be at least 3 and no more than 63 characters long.

  22. S3 file size can be 0 bytes to 5 TB.

  23. Single file upload (PUT) file size in S3 can be upto 5GB.

  24. Can upload files larger than 5GB through multipart upload with chunks of max 5GB.

  25. By default, customers can provision up to 100 buckets per AWS account. However, you can increase by asking AWS.

  26. In Stored Volume Storage Gateway, file size ranges from 1GB to 16GB in size.

  27. In Cached Volume Storage Gateway, file zise can be upto 32 TiB in size.

  28. Snowball is the standard data transport appliance with 80TB capacity.

  29. Snowball Edge devices are 100TB devices with onboard storage and compute capabilities.

  30. Snowmobile has 100PB capacity.
